What makes Comestible unique?
Artwork: Comestiblefeatures both illustrations and papercuts.Illustrations are done by Jessie Kanelos Weiner, and in each issue, there is a full spread of seasonal produce that can be colored in, for those who want to. The cover is a papercut made by Anna Brones, and there are several more papercuts throughout Comestible.
Seasonal recipes: Each issue is full of recipes that are made to put seasonal produce to good use (sometimes even some foraged ingredients!), from appetizers to main dishes to desserts.
Grower's report: In food media, we often talk a lot about making food, but we rarely hear from the people who produce our food. Comestibleis different, and each issue features an column written by a farmer.
Comestibleis 64 pages and measures 5.25 x 7.75 inches. It is bound in saddle stitch, to make it easier to open and lay flat when you're putting it on your kitchen counter to make a recipe. It is printed on recycled, FSC-certified paper at a local, Pacific Northwest-based printer.
Retail price: $12
